Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe

The Congress Committee on Sustainable Development is responsible for environmental concerns and town and country planning matters. The Congress has a status of an observer inter-governmental organization (IGO) to the UN Framework Convention of Climate Change. The recommendations issued by the Congress in the scope of regional planning and regional development are accessible from the web site.

The European Environment Agency (EEA) now hosts detailed maps and land cover information from the 117 European cities currently included in its new 'Urban Atlas'. The Urban Atlas is providing pan-European comparable land use and land cover data for Large Urban Zones with more than 100.000 inhabitants. The GIS data can be downloaded together with a map for each urban area covered, along with a report with metadata.

There is opportunity for online discussions through the OSMOSE forum.
OSMOSE is part of NICHES project on innovative urban transport and mobility, supported by the European Commission, DG Research, under the 6th Framework Programme.

Partners from nine European countries are involved in the project. The website offers detailed information about their work and experience, along with news and links to other sites in the scope of sustainable urban transport.
