Discussion of the First Draft of the Updated District Development Strategy of Plovdiv District17.06.2010
On 11.06.2010 in the offices of the district administration of Plovdiv District took place a District Development Committee meeting. The first draft of the updated District Development Strategy (DDS) of Plovdiv district, developed with the support of the Rio Conventions project, was presented during the meeting.
The development of an Updated Implementation Document (UID) of the DDS for the period 2010-2013 is in accordance with the requirements set in the Regional Development Act and the methodological guidelines for update of the acting strategies and plans for regional and local development, implemented on 31.08.2008 and approved by the Minister of regional development and public works with ordinance No. RD 02-14-844 from 20 May 2009.
Additional proposals for measures and priorities in DDS were made by the members of the District Development Committee during the meeting, which will be taken under consideration during the development of the second draft of the updated document, which will be posted for public discussion during the month of July 2010. Main topics of these proposals were: stimulation for bio-technological development in the district; development of an intra – university technology park with the support of the local business; necessity for coordination of the general constitution plans and the regional constitution schematics and the objectives set in the DDS; social and economical improvements for the roma population in the district; development of city and suburban railroad transportation; preservation of the cultural and historical heritage in the region and it’s development as an attractive tour destination; improvement of transportation lines for communication with Northern Bulgaria; setting up of a transport and logistics center, which would create correlation between railroad, land and air transportation in the district and ensure the development of the adjoining territories.
