Official opening of the University Cooperation for Regional Development (UNICREDS) Project10.05.2010
On the 27-28 of April 2010 in the town of Truro, Cornwall, Great Britain took place the official opening of the “University Cooperation for Regional Development” (UNICREDS) project financed by the EU Programme for Interregional Cooperation INTERREG IVC. The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, specifically the General Directorate “Strategic Planning of the Regional Development and Administrative-Territorial Constitution” participates as project partnering organization.
The “University Cooperation for Regional Development” (UNICREDS) Project is financed by the EU Programme for Interregional Cooperation INTERREG IVC, which aims to improve the regional and local policies in areas such as innovation and knowledge economy, with focus on improving the capacity for scientific research and technology development, business support for small and medium sized enterprises through exchange of knowledge and best practices with the support of the regional and local authorities. The main theme of the project is the support of higher education for regional development in order to increase growth and employment in less developed regions in EU, including Bulgaria. The project was approved for financing on the total value of 2 173 660 on 5 of November 2009 and started in January 2010. Fifteen partners form UK, Sweden, Hungary, Bulgaria, Scotland, Finland and Czech Republic participate in the project. Partner on the Bulgarian side is The Faculty of Geology and Geography at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The partnering organizations will focus on the development of a set of specific research activities for exchange of experience, identification of good practices and development of closer relations between regions, their universities and the private sector for maximum benefits for the region. The Level 2 North-Central Region, with center the town of Rousse, is selected to be a pilot region in Bulgaria for implementation of the project activities.
