Second Partners Meeting Under the “Regions for Sustainable Change” Project.12.03.2009
On the 10th and 11th of March 2009 Genova, Italy was conducted the second partner meeting under the project “Regions for sustainable change” financed by the program of the European Union Interreg IVC.
During the meeting was presented the team selected for the management of the project and the project activities for 2009 were approved.
In addition, the first meetings of the project working groups (WG) were held on the following topics:
1. WG “Assessment of the regions’ condition” – preparation of a report of the present condition of the associated regions, in order to determine their necessities by the integration of the issues regarding climate change and the low-carbon economy into the programs and plans for regional development.
2. WG “Review of the methodology for the implementation of environmental assessment” – examination of the different approaches how to implement EA, including sustainability assessment (and other tools for assessment) of the programs for regional development within the range of the associated regions. Evaluation of the experience and the perspectives for the implementation of those tools for the integration of climate change and the low-carbon issues.
3. WG “Indicators and criteria” – preparation of a range of indicators, which could describe the “ideal” conditions of a region’s state, which builds its capacity for the integration of issues regarding the climate change into the economy and the development programs.
4. WG “Macroeconomic analysis of the regions” – preparation of an analysis of three of the associated regions – Cornwall (England), Marche (Italy) and Burgenland (Austria) and integration of the remaining project activities.
5. WG “External communication” – development of a strategic approach for communication, site visits and presentations of the project at different events in the associated countries.
The main goal of the project “Regions for Sustainable Change” is to develop the potential of the regions of the EU for adaptation to and struggle against the climate change and the development of a low-carbon economy.
The project consortium consists of 12 partners from Hungary, Great Britain, Austria, Spain, Bulgaria, Italy, Malta and Poland. From the Bulgarian side, the project partner is the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. The total cost of the project is 2,153, 526.63 EUR and the approved budget for the project activities in Bulgaria is 120 347.71 EUR.
