Start of a Joint Project between Sliven District and the County Council of Cornwall, Great Britain18.04.2009
In Мarch 2009, the District Administration of Sliven and the County Council of Cornwall County, Great Britain initiated a joint project entitled “Partnership for Green Energy”.
The implementation of this project is a result from the cooperation of the General Directorate “Regional Policy and Management Systems” at MRDPW and the Cornwall County, which began in November 2007, during an working visit in the County, which was attended by 11 experts from MRDPW, MOEW, Varna District Administration and NAMRB, followed by a seminar entitled “Bulgaria, Cornwall and Southwest England: in Search for Opportunities for “Green” Regional Partnerships” held in June 2008 in Sofia and supported by the Rio Conventions Project.
The project “Partnership for Green Energy” is financed in the framework of the granting scheme “Support for Interregional Cooperation and Exchange of Best Practices”, priority axis 4: “Local Development and Cooperation”, Operation 4.2. “Interregional Cooperation” of the Operational Program for Regional Development and the total budget of the project amounts to 249 020 leva.
The project has a duration of 18 months and its official start is planned for the end of April 2009.
The Project “Partnership for Green Energy” is directed towards the following target groups:
- representatives of the Sliven District Administration;
-experts from the municipalities in Sliven District, as well as the municipalities in Burgas, Yambol and Stara Zagora Districts;
- lecturers in the field of the energy efficiency and renewable energy sources (RES) from the department of “Mechanics, Mechanical Engineering and Thermotechnics” and the department of “Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation” at the faculty of Engineering and Pedagogy of the Technical University – Sofia in Sliven;
- representatives of non-governmental organizations, active in the field of RES in Sliven District;
- representatives of craft and business organizations in Sliven District;
- the residents of Sliven District.
The main goal of the project is to achieve sustainable development in the Sliven region through the exchange of good practices and innovative methods in the field of renewable energy sources.
The main activities envisaged in the project framework include:
- Review of good practices in the field of RES in Cornwall County;
- A work visit of selected representatives from the main target groups from Sliven region in Southwest England;
- Collection, review and analysis of data in the field of RES on the territory of Sliven District;
- Development and adoption of “Strategy for Sustainable Utilization of RES in Sliven District in the Period of 2010-2017”;
- Establishment of an internet-based network for exchange of information, procedures and good practices among the regional and territorial units, companies and other interested participants from the two partnering regions;
- Carrying out of an information campaign for dissemination of the results from the established interregional cooperation;
- Activities for enhancing the public interest to the advantages of RES use;
- Activities for enhancing the publicity and transparency of the project.
