Biodiversity

UN Convention on Biodiversity (UNCBD):

The Convention on Biological Diversity was signed at the Earth Summit, which took place in 1992, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The Convention on Biological Diversity is the first global agreement on the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity. The treaty recognizes – for the first time – that the conservation of biological diversity is a common concern of humankind and is an integral part of the development process. Importantly, the Convention is legally binding; countries that join it are obliged to implement its provisions. Up to the present moment, 168 countries have signed the Convention. Bulgaria signed the Convention on 12 June 1992 and ratified it on 17 April 1996.
