European Green Week 2010 Focuses on Biological Diversity

The European Green Week will take place in Brussels from 1 to 4 June 2010. This year, what is considered to be the largest annual conference on European environment policy, will focus on biodiversity.

At more than 30 sessions during the conference the following issues related to biological diversity will be addressed: state of biodiversity and nature in Europe and the world, benefits they bring, present-day pressures on them, and possible solutions to the current rates of loss. The direction of EU policies on biodiversity and nature after 2010, the economic dimension of biodiversity, ecosystem services and Natura 2000 will also be investigated.

Along with the main sessions the exchange of experience and good practices will be facilitated by the exhibition and side events. Detailed information about the programme, key speakers, and presentations can be found at the Green Week 2010 Website

The registration is now open. In order to register an on-line form should be filled in. The registration can be accessed here.

Some 3 800 participants are expected to attend the event. They are representatives of EU institutions, business and industry, non-governmental organisations, public authorities, the scientific community and academia.

European Green Week is an annual event, taking place since 2001. It is one of the most important environment conferences in Europe as it outlines the directions of environment policy on the continent at least a year ahead. The 2009 edition, dedicated to climate change, was attended by more that 4000 participants.
