SWITCH Resources about Urban Water Management
SWITCH is an international project, funded by the European Commission and led by UNESCO-IHE. It combines the scientific findings with the realities of the urban water management and challenges. The project is aimed at bringing urban water management towards a more coherent and integrated approach. It has been implemented for almost 5 years and will end in January 2011.
The project website offers abundant information, gathered during the project implementation, which includes a searchable database, news and events, and training opportunities. The information is useful for the urban water sector professionals among others.
The SWITCH Consortium represents academics, urban planners, water utilities and consultants who work directly with civil society through 'learning alliances' in ten global cities. These are platforms which bring city stakeholders (utilities, planners, NGOs, finance departments etc) together with researchers. Other methods used to accelerate the sharing and adoption of more sustainable urban water solutions across different geographical, climatic and socio-cultural settings are demonstrations, research, training and knowledge sharing.
SWITCH Resources database - all public resources are stored in a searchable database. The information categories within the database include case studies, research results, scientific papers, PhD theses, project deliverables, presentations and project documents.
SWITCH Training Kit - a comprehensive kit, which will mainly be based on the outcomes of the research undertaken in SWITCH and is designed for training activities offered to water managers, urban planners and engineers from local governments and water, wastewater and drainage utilities.
SWITCH Training Desk - an information and documentation service provided by ICLEI – International Training Centre. The webpage offers information on training activities (workshops and on-line courses open for registration or past workshops and the training materials used for them), material search, and SWITCH partners who develop and deliver training and their areas of specialisation; selected information on events and materials from outside SWITCH. Inquiries can be made on additional training events on urban water management tailored to specific needs.
